7 Day Plan To Make Your Wardrobe Clutter Free

WARDROBE - JEWELRY - CLOTHES Published On: June 10, 2016

  • Is the sheer volume of clothes wallowing in your wardrobe making you feel suffocated?
  • Do you splurge an exorbitant amount of time rummaging for pieces of clothing to throw on a decent ensemble every morning before work?
  • Do you feel irritated when you are running late for work, and you are unable to find that matching jacket you need to complete the look?

7 Day Plan To Make Your Wardrobe Clutter Free

You know it’s somewhere inside the chaos, but apart from diving headlong into the pile of shambolic garbs; there is little else you can do! This fashion problem seems even more compounded for moms who have to juggle between mustering a viable look and keeping a vigilant eye to see if their toddlers are in the throes of another mischief. Not to mention the panic of finding out that your wardrobe cannot accommodate anymore clothes, especially during the holiday season when the chic dresses you had your eye on would be at sale.

If your wardrobe seems on the verge of a clothes vomit, it’s high time to consider freeing your wardrobe’s unnecessary pressure and ensure some semblance of order and regularity in your life (and space for more shopping sprees).

Day 1: Make a Closet Program

No matter how decluttered and meticulously kept your home is, closets are often the last place to get organized. Since what is in a closet remains in a closet, thanks to the all-encompassing doors, it seems much easier to shove all your stuff in and slam the door shut, to be dealt with later. Unfortunately, that later never comes and the dreams of a clutter free wardrobe are left in the realm of dreams.

However, if you are determined to tackle your wardrobe dilemma this month, the first step is to organize the plan a bit. Scrutinize your closet with a judgmental eye and decide what you need your closet to do for you? How should it function and who should it function for? Have you set a budget for decluttering? What problems exactly do you need to cater to? Is it the lack of closet space, a surplus of possessions, or perhaps your belongings are in such a state of disarray that it is a blood curdling mayhem in there and rummaging out anything is a feat in itself?

Day 2: Access your needs

Make a list of categories of all items you want to see in your newly organized closet. People contending with a shortage of storage space in their homes often resort to storing other paraphernalia in their closets, such as linens, ironing boards, and sports equipment. List all categories of items that you plan to stash away in your closet before you begin to divide your items for a clutter free wardrobe.

Day 3,4,5: Get Rid of Your old Stuff

What’s the biggest fashion problem of any woman; having nothing to wear and no space to house new garbs! Here’s a shocker; this dilemma has more truth to it than simply a light jest on the silly antics of women. Your wardrobes may be filled to the brimming, but you may not have anything that can actually be worn! This is exactly why you need to stifle your inner voice of melancholy and get rid of old stuff to make room for new.

While we are hard wired to worship material things and letting go is difficult for most of us, no matter how useless something is, spend a day to take stock of your wardrobe inventory and determine what you can part away with.Ruthlessly unload your entire closet’s contents. As gloomy as the process may sound, this step gives you a first-hand account of what lurks inside your recesses. This step actually liberates you from having piles of unnecessary stuff weight you down.

Here are some basic rules for deciding what to keep and what to discard off for a clutter free wardrobe:

If you haven’t worn something in a year, chances are you never will. Out it goes heedlessly of the size, price, and condition.

If you frequently wear a piece of clothing that irritates you every time you do, put it in a separate pile, outside your wardrobe.

If a possession is in needs of repair and has been waiting around for a long time for it, it’s time to bid adieu.

If ironing is not one of your virtues and you have a mountainous pile of neglected garbs while you circulate all your favorite attires over and over again, you probably don’t need the contents of that ironing pile as much as you think.

All garbs from your skinny days that refuse to fit you now are probably futile.Don’t just cling to something that is beautiful but the buttons gape at the front showing off your bosom, or your bulging tummy.  Not that you can’t go back to being the epitome of skinny, your taste changes, styles change, and your body shape never remains the same, so chances are pretty high that until you fit into your old clothes, you probably won’t want that stuff anymore.

If you love a particular shirt or a jacket, but have nothing to wear with it, it’s time to follow the one year rule as a mate isn’t going to appear magically in the night.

Sentimental clothing that you’ll probably never wear poses another conundrum. If you can’t muster the courage to give away your wedding dress, or the clothes from your crazy teen years to show to your kids so they can laugh their heads off at you someday, at least limit yourself to one such tote of item, or take pictures to preserve memories.

You don’t have to do it all at once. Assign separate days to each piece of clothing; one day you could sort out your shirts, the next day pants and bottoms, and so on. When you organize in stages, your success at every step is your biggest driver. You’d be surprised by all the stuff you have stocked up.

While you are sorting each category, pick up each item and decide there and then; the longer you procrastinate, the harder it will get! One useful way to sort things out is to create a pile for each of the following lists:

KEEP – FREQUENT USE: Items that you wear often, have worn in the last 3 months,go with other items, or fit perfectly.

KEEP – INFREQUENT: Ensembles reserved for special occasions, such as maternity wear, wedding dress, and evening wear.

KEEP – OUT OF SEASON: You can afford to keep clothes you cannot wear in the current season. They might come in handy.

CHARITY: Items that you don’t wear anymore but are in good condition should be given away to charity.

GIVEAWAY: Clothes that you can give away to friends, supermarket recycling bins, Freecycle, etc.

SELL: Expensive pieces of items that could glean you some extra bucks could be set for auction on EBay for instance.

Day 6: Organize in Sections

Once you have decided what must go back in your wardrobe, it is prudent to designate a separate place for everything in your closet. Sweaters in one place, shirts in one, pants in another, so that you don’t undergo a daily tussle of untangling your shirt from your pants. This will help you save time and maintain order each morning. Making smart use of the space is your best bet against clutter.

Day 7: Maximize the space you have

Learning to leverage your existing wardrobe space prudently is indispensable, if you don’t want to clutter your home with more closets. Time to go shopping; there are a plethora of closet organizing contraptions that would help your wardrobe stay clutter free and more organized. The best part is that you can easily purchase these hacks for discounted prices on online shopping resources. Some excellent storage hacks include:

Drawer Dividers: Jumbled-up balls of stuff in drawers make it harder to find anything, especially when you are in a rush. If you find yourself a victim of the messy drawer syndrome, drawer dividers are the perfect, super affordable solutions. With these hacks, you can easily sort out all your camisoles, under garments, and tees.

Bra Tree: Bra trees allow you to hang all your bras up on your closet rod. Stripped of its fancy, bra tree is simply an organizer hanger for your bras and augments your hanging space with two rows of added hooks.

Closet Extender Rods: This is another inexpensive way to boost your closet way.

Handbag Organizers: Do you hate to see your prized handbags being squashed beneath layers of your belongings? These contraptions are the perfect storage solutions for your handbags.  These can be stored in drawers on plastic boxes, or on a dedicated shelf.

Cheap Jewelry Armoire: If you own a lot of jewelry, or need a viable solution to store all your precious gemstones and fine jewelry pieces, put all your jewelry away in a jewelry armoire.

Organize your hats and scarves: If your drawer space is less than your closet rod, you should consider hanging as much as possible. While you can invest in affordable scarves holders, shower hooks are a much cheaper option. You can install hooks to the inside of your closet door to exploit that space.Wall hooks are the jack of all trades. With such a scarcity of space, no space should be left naked.

Gear Pocket Organizers: This hanging organizer can be used to store outdoor and camping gear. With 14 durable mesh pockets, you can use this incredible contrivance to store a plethora of small tid bits in your closet, for instance socks, hankies, or gloves in separate compartments.

Remember that you are working on a limited space. Jamming your clothes into your closet and struggling to find them every other day after you are flooded by an avalanche on opening the closet doors, would only serve to make you grumpy and frustrated. No matter how much it tears at heart, decluttering renders a sense of serenity and organization to your wardrobe, which would ultimately reflect on your personal life as well.
